The number of unemployment applications fell again last week as the job market chugs on in spite of high interest rates and fears of a recession. Low and falling jobless claims back up hopes that the Federal Reserve is managing a “soft landing” after the recent bout of inflation, managing to drastically cut inflation without driving the economy into recession.
