Football strategies are often guided by conventional wisdom, such as the idea that teams should always punt on fourth down if a field goal is out of the question. However, the rise of analytics has revealed that many of these strategies are not actually the optimal approach: analysis shows that in certain situations, conventional wisdom can be too risk-averse—which often leads to missed opportunities.

The same holds true in investing. Some strategies may be more popular than others, but as this Forbes article explains, just because something has always been done a certain way doesn’t mean it is the right move for your financial objectives.
