Last month, former Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh died at the age of 46 as a result of injuries sustained in a house fire. After Hsieh’s death, it was reported that Hsieh, who was unmarried and had no children, left behind an estate worth an estimated $840 million — and no will. 

No matter your net worth, your marital status, or how many children you have, it’s vital that you have a plan for distributing your assets when you’re gone. Without a will, your wishes may not be carried out; not only that, it’s also not uncommon for estate squabbles to cause long-lasting damage to family relationships.
