One of the cornerstones of most long-term financial plans is the ability to live comfortably in retirement. Reaching your financial goals takes careful planning and diligent saving, and retirement is supposed to be a reward for our years of hard work. But according to a recent report, many Americans do not have enough saved to retire comfortably (or retire at all)—and the problem is worse for women.

A recent survey by Gold IRA Guide found that 49% of women have less than $25,000 saved for retirement. And these are not young people just beginning their careers: 36% of respondents aged 45 and up reported having less than $25,000 in their retirement accounts. This article from Money explains the numbers and what they mean.
