Small Stressors Can Be Just as Harmful as Large Ones

When we think of the things that cause stress, we tend to think big: your car breaking down, a looming deadline at work, or an ailing family member. But stress can come in small packages too. We might not even recognize those little moments or events that happen throughout our day as being stressful, but they are.

These small, challenging moments are called “microstresses.” They seem manageable on their own, but because we often don’t recognize them as stressors, we don’t cope with them the right way—and they can build up over time.
