What is a CFP®?

CFP explains financial plan

The Certified Financial Planner™️ (CFP®️) designation is recognized globally as a standard of excellence in the field of financial planning. To become a CFP®️ professional, individuals must complete rigorous requirements set by the CFP Board, which include:

Education requirements: Candidates must have a bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university and have completed specific coursework in financial planning topics.

Examination: CFP®️ candidates must pass a comprehensive, six-hour exam administered by the CFP Board. The exam tests their knowledge and ability to apply financial planning principles in real-life scenarios.

Extensive Experience: Candidates must have at least 6,000 hours of professional experience related to financial planning, or 4,000 hours through an apprenticeship option known as the Financial Planning Experience (FPE) requirement.

Ethics: CFP®️ professionals are required to adhere to a strict code of ethics. The CFP Board’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct, includes a fiduciary duty to act in their clients' best interests. They must also disclose any conflicts of interest and provide transparent and fair advice.

The CFP®️ certification signifies a commitment to competence, ethics, and professionalism in the field of financial planning, making CFP®️ professionals trusted advisors to individuals and families seeking sound financial advice.
