XML Wealth Insights: The True Source of Inflation

Written by XML Financial Group | May 27, 2026 7:12:58 PM

This week, Curtis Congdon, CFP®, CRPC®, President of XML Financial Group, discusses what is leading to a sustained increase in prices. We look at charts covering Consumer Price Index Components, as well as the Federal Deficit. Curtis explains that while geopolitical events like the war in Iran and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz can temporarily push energy prices higher, they are not necessarily the root cause of broad, long-term inflation. Instead, he discusses how sustained price increases across many sectors of the economy are tied to the continued growth of money circulating in the system, driven in part by ongoing federal deficit spending.
